Preparing for Departure

Where did the time go?

When the Captain and I were contemplating spending the South Pacific hurricane season in Hawaii, we asked ‘what are we possibly going to do in Hawaii for four and a half months?’ Well that (obviously) turned out to be a very silly question. The time has flown by and we still have so much that we want to do!

We had a lovely time visiting Oahu for the last two and a half months. We docked at the Ala Wai Marina which is steps away from Waikiki Beach for a monthly cost equivalent to one night in some luxury hotels.

We enjoyed the company of many visitors including my Dad, Mom, and Sister and several of Fabio’s friends from American College of Switzerland.

Even Obama (who is wildly popular in Hawaii) was on-board.

The Captain has been working non-stop to care for Amandla and me.  We feel the love.

We are now back in Hilo waiting for a weather window to start the first leg of our journey to New Zealand.

Luckily, we were here to see our friends from Coccinelle sail into Reeds Bay from the Marquesas on their way to Alaska.

We are sad that our friend Bill tore his rotator cuff and can not make the journey with us.  The good news is that The Captain’s friend Steve has signed on for the journey and his lovely wife Margo will join us in the Tuamotus!  And Bill made us a gorgeous wooden bowl so he will still be on-board in spirit.

I’ve been spending the last few days taking a vacation from my ‘vacation’ at the Hamilton’s Beach House. We are lucky to have such generous friends.

I so miss you all and wish that we were sailing in the UK 🙂 Can we convince you to come for a visit in New Zealand?
