Street Jam In Raiatea

While the Captain was hard at work on Amandla at the Raiatea Carenage, he gave me the gift of some highly prized shore leave.   I took off on one of our folding bikes for a lovely 40 km ride around beautiful Raiatea.  Nothing brings out the kid in me like a good bike ride.  Well, maybe a trip to Bergdorf’s, but that is my New York City inner child.

Anyhow, I had an absolute blast.

The best part of the day was coming across a jam session full of drums and dancing.   What a treat to have gotten such a close view into the local culture.

Photographs of the band, very small audience, and two dancers appear below.

I also shot a brief film which I’ve loaded to Amandla’s You Tube channel in an attempt to give you a ring side seat at the dance. The Captain’s videography skills were again very much missed.

Amandla is now back in the water.  Her newly cleaned and painted hull allowed us to sail incredibly fast to Tahiti where we will remain until at least until the end of the week.

That looks like so much fun! The colours are so vivid, and I can almost hear the sound of the drumming.

Thank you so much for having a look at my blog Karen and for your lovely compliment! It truly was a treat!
