Opua – Paihia Coastal Walkway

New Zealand - January 2015 - Entering Opua

I first learned of  ‘Jo’s Monday Walk’ from the very originative Cardinal Guzman.

New Zealand - January 2015 - Low Tide (5)

I loved the idea.

New Zealand - January 2015 - Woodshed

So when when the Captain gave me a bit (okay, a lot) of shore leave while he remained on the boat fixing things, I decided to take the opportunity to participate with a walk on the beautiful Opua – Paihia Coastal Walkway.

New Zealand - January 2015 - Fetch

The up to 8 km walk on a well-maintained, mixed grade trail offers beautiful scenery with the perfect balance of shade and sun.

Here is a bit of what I saw along the way.

The walk is well worth the time if you find yourself in the Bay of Islands….

New Zealand - January 2015 - Tractor

..with a bit of shore leave…

…however you get here.

Wouldn’t I love to find myself in the Bay of Islands? It looks like my idea of heaven, though my Algarve beaches are maybe a little better. But that’s just being picky 🙂 🙂 I love that opening shot and the little one, ‘jumping’ along the beach. And the heron too 🙂 Many thanks for a lovely contribution, Lisa.

Thanks for organizing this wonderful ‘challenge’ and for your lovely compliments Jo. And I am happy to visit Algarve virtually through your eyes until I can get there myself someday.

I think it just goes to show that no matter where you go take your camera as there are some amazing photographs to be had. My personal favourite is the overgrown tractor.

Thank you Mark! Lucky for both of us that we get to take our cameras to some pretty amazing locations, but totally agree that no matter where you go, there are some amazing photographs to be had! Hope that the crew of Cygnus III are having a wonderful 2015!

Glorious photos. Thanks for taking me along with you 🙂

Thank you so much for walking along with me virtually!

Wonderful! I walked the same route in November 2013, while in the area on a tall ship. I have a similar photo of that tractor. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by Elizabeth! Glad to have walked the route with you virtually. I love it when I stumble upon pictures taken by other people in places that I have visited. Seeing familiar places through other’s eyes makes them new all over again. It was great to see your photos of New Zealand. And a big congrats on your Publishers Weekly Review!

As a fellow walker with Jo, I came to have a look at your post drawn by the fact that it is coastal AND in New Zealand 🙂 I have recently returned from a visit to New Zealand but didn’t get this far north. Lovely to see it through your lens. Nice white-faced heron and a great shot of the Tui bird with his white wattle. I found it so difficult to get a shot of one of those birds, they are so quick! I am not good on the sea, but I do envy you your travels.

Thank you so much Jude for having a look and for your lovely compliment. I very much enjoyed your photos of New Zealand as well. Nice to share this beautiful place with you virtually 🙂

Hey Lisa,

So glad that summer has finally come to the Bay of Islands! I know you’re loving it! Happy New Year to you and the Captain!

OMG you are so right. It was a very LONG wait. Now that the good weather is here, we are planning to drive to the South Island in our new (for us) Honda Odyssey and do a little camping. Happy New Year back at you! Wish you were here with us!

Hello Lisa lovely to “meet” you in the virtual world and thanks for calling by and following my blog, Le Chic En Rose too 🙂 Your sailing adventures sound wonderful and you have taken some lovely photos! I have heard that the Bay of Islands is picturesque and I can see that from this beautiful walk and your stunning photos! My uncle lives in Christchurch and my cousin in Wellington and I’ve been to South Island once and then up to Wellington but never further north than that in NZ – really enjoyed my last trip though and must come again one day. Jo’s Monday Walk is a great idea and she gets some wonderful contributions each week from around the world. Nice to meet you and I look forward to reading more about your adventures best wishes Rosemary 🙂

Thank you so very much Rosemary!

I am heading for a visit to the South Island via Wellington soon and look forward to visiting Christchurch.
So many opportunities for walking and photographing. Can not wait.

If you come back for a visit by end April 2015, give a shout 🙂

Great shots, Lisa!

I am so glad that you liked them Lucile!
