‘185 Empty Chairs’ is a temporary art installation reflecting on the loss of lives, livelihood, and living in Christchurch following the February 2011 earthquake by artists Peter and Joyce Majendie.

The damage to Christchurch was extensive and the rebuilding continues today.

I hope your week has been wonderful so far.

My week has just gotten better Cee! Thank you ☺️

This is a fabulous entry.

Thank you Lynne. I came across ‘185 Empty Chairs’ during a recent visit to Christchurch and found it to be incredibly moving.

I can see that it would be. It gives extra depth to the image because of the story behind it.

I wonder if the artists spoke with families of the lost to get a sense of what type of chair they would like. It is what i would do – not just pick random chairs. it is a wonderful installation and a beautiful photo.

I do know that a few of the chairs were donated for the initial installation by survivors and families of earthquake victims.

what a beautiful art memorial – wow – and I also found the skyline int he back very interesting Lisa = the cranes and misc. verticals – truly a fascinating photo.

Thank you so much Yvette. Once again you amaze me with your eye for details (e.g. skyline in the back) 🙂

Very nicely done!! THIS could have been entered in “oddball” because it’s odd. And lovely.

Thank you so much. Greatly appreciate you stopping by and having a look :-). I haven’t yet played in the ‘oddball’ challenge but I have a few pictures up my sleeve that may just make it that way. Cheers!
