Liebster x3

liebsta

I was honoured when the very gifted Becky S. from Back To Whatever nominated me for my third Liebster Award.

Becky posed 5 questions to me and her four other nominees which I enjoyed answering while sailing from New Zealand to Fiji.

Here goes.

1. What do you do to make this world a better place?

I could do more. At my best, I am kind, generous, inclusive, non-judgmental, entertaining and engaging.  At my worst, I am a raging bitch, self-absorbed, stingy (with my time), and fearful.

Where do I give?

  • Any good cause that my friends raise funds for…most recently funds for a new pipe to replace one destroyed by hurricane Pam in Vanuatu that is being coordinated by my friends Thomas and Annette on SY Anke-Sophie
  • Amnesty International

2. When was the last time you stayed up all night long and why?

North Sea, July 2011, sailing from Ramsgate, England to Den Helder, Netherlands with my teacher Ben, co-students Fletcher and Andy, and two other passengers (Rod and I wish I could remember).   The weather turned inclement with gale force winds on the nose in the pouring rain with no bimini or dodger. 3 of 6 passengers were affected with sea sickness. The weather was so horrible that we had to alter our course and head to Ijmuiden.  I acted as the navigator while the Ben and Fletcher alternated turns at the helm (no autopilot or GPS either). Eventually, I began to feel the effects of the sea and so I took over on helm for the last two hours of the passage. We arrived soaking wet and exhausted but safe and sound. Next morning, we sailed the boat to Amsterdam and checked into a hotel for about a week to dry off.

3. What is fascinating you the most in nature?

Gosh, everything. The cosmos, the sea, volcanoes, trees, whales, and dolphins.

4. How much do you spend on books per year?

$500 +  I read a lot and also buy cruising guides which aren’t cheap.

5. Did you ever see a dolphin in real life? If yes, where?

This question clarifies the plethora of dolphin pictures in this post. The answer is yes.  I am a very lucky girl.

Now comes the part where I am supposed to nominate blogs for this esteemed award.  However, as I wrote when I accepted my other two Liebster Awards, there are so many blogs I follow, that I can’t limit my love to just a few. So instead of punting it back (once again borrowing from the eloquent words written by Behan Gifford on sailingtotem.com) I’m just going to say that there are some beautiful, inspiring blogs out there.  If you want a taste, you can start with a list of wonderful sailing blogs that I follow on my Sailing Links Page.
