This post loaded very…weirdly, it’s still loading. No “like” button???
The one where the bird’s wings are spread is an OUTRAGEOUS TREAT!! You really do have a knack for capturing unusual shots.
what’s with the thumbs up dealy?

Thanks for letting me know about the loading issue Mr Badfish. Did you try to launch from the WP Reader? And if so, did you click on one of the pictures or on the text ‘Treat’. The reason that I ask is that when I try to click on one of the pictures, it seems to get stuck, but if I click on the text ‘Treat’ the post loads normally. I want to see if you had the same experience so I can let the ‘self hosted’ site support gurus (JetPack) know what is going on. And thank you so much for your lovely compliment on the flying cockatoo picture ?

I find the Reader…um…very difficult to use. There’s no order to it. All my followers are lumped together not in any order, can’t find anyone. I use the orange button top right on WP blogs. It tells me who said what and when. Or I open emails. I opened the email from yours. I clicked “comment.” I just opened it by clicking the title. It worked fine, and the like button was there, but I wouldn’t have known to do that. Can you add a button that says…go to post?

Yeah, I am not a huge fan of the Reader either. Sorry to hear that the post got hung up when you clicked ‘comment’ in the email. I could add some text going forward that says ‘click here for post’

BTW – I loved your most recent post with Duncan’s Story. Brought tears to my eyes.

Just thought I’d chime in here and say I hate the Reader, too. I knew we three had something in common – haha. I just set the Manage Blogs thingy to send me an email when people post. For favorite blogs (like you two 🙂 ), I set it to get an email instantly when you post. For others, it might be weekly, and there are some I’ve changed to never, and I may or may not check those out in the dreaded Reader if/when I have lots of spare time.

Debbie says:

Lexklein, that works fine until -wordpress mysteriously stop sendng the mail notifications, which happened to me. i still dont get them. i dont know whats wrong. i have to remember where i commented and search them out again. not an easy task! but i navigated my way back to the sulpher crested cockatoos! 🙂

In addition to the challenges that you all have posed, I can think of a few other reasons why I don’t like The Reader. Users can see my posts and like my posts in The Reader, but because I am a self-hosted site, they can’t search for my posts by ‘tag’, comment on my posts, or reblog me (not that they would, but just sayin’).

Debbie says:

Oh now you are making me homesick, Lisa – those lovely sulfar-crested cockatoos! Great shots!

? Debbie. I am loving everything about your home! I had never seen a cockatoo before visiting here. This flock lives in Rushcutters Bay Park.

Debbie says:

oh, the cockatoos are beautiful! the sulpher crested ones, like your photo, some places have black cockatoos, special messengers for the aboriginal people, and then, my favourite, Galahs. you are sure to see galahs in sydney – grey cockatoos with a pink crest – galahs are famous in the bird kindgom cause they mate for life…. and then there’s the rainbow lorikeets…… 🙂 … and budgerigars…..

So many cool cockatoos to look forward to in my future! And such a variety of animals to see here as well (kangaroos, wombats, platypuses, etc) Cannot wait to see them all!

Debbie says:

🙂

Hi Lisa! Lovely photos of the cockatoos. They are beautiful birds. The gray ones are also beautiful. looks like you are having fun.

I am delighted that you liked the images. Am hopeful to see the gray ones soon. Am having fun. So much to see in Sydney. Went to see the movie The Martian this evening and thought of you. Did you see it?

Margo says:

Aren’t they gorgeous!!!!

They are totally gorgeous Margo! I had never seen a cockatoo before visiting and I understand that they come in a few different colors. The wildlife in this place is awesome.

Lisa, I just love cockatoos! Your photos are lovely and perfect for the theme, both to the birds and to our eyes. I “met” my first cockatoo at the San Diego Zoo when I was a kid and it got real close to the bars in the cage and kept telling us it “loved us.” And said hello in its cute little birdy voice!

Wow! I didn’t know cockatoos could talk! I need to go back to the park and see if I can engage any of them in a conversation ?. I had never seen a cockatoo before the ones I met in the park near where we keep our boat. They are just lovely. Am glad you liked the images!

lexklein says:

Oh how I loved those Australian birds! Perfect little treats!

They are a treat indeed Lexi. Never met a cockatoo until I arrived here. And met my first Ibis today. So many cool creatures in this land. Love this place.

I love watching them. Love the black ones! They fascinate me.

Can not wait to find a black cockatoo! I am certain that they will mesmerize me.

Wonderful captures… 🙂

You are lovely to say Drake! Thank you so much.

Way better than pigeons.

Ha! That is exactly what I thought. Australia certainly has North America beat with its variety of really cool wildlife!

I am having trouble with my comment use off the dashboard. And for some reason my site keep sending your comments to spam. Agreed about the wildlife.

It may be because I am on a self-hosted site…not fully welcome in the WordPress world 🙁

No worries! I check my spam folder every day. Everyone is welcome. The more, the merrier I say! Proprietary software should be a thing of the past.

How ’bout it!

These photos are so beautiful. Those birds… gorgeous!

Thank you Eva! I’d never seen a cockatoo before visiting here so it was a real treat for me. I was entranced by the interaction between the cockatoos and the man feeding them. They came from every direction when he opened his bag of treats.

Lisa, you didn’t think I would let you get away with this did you…
“Can not wait to find a black cockatoo! I am certain that they will mesmerise me”
Personally I get the same effect when I look at the Great Tits of this world.
As always, a life and adventure told in wonderful photographs each one worth a thousand words!

I can always count on you to Mark to ‘tel it like it is’ ?. Once again you’ve made me roar with laughter….and delighted me with your kindness.

In this photo it’s hard to say who is having the greatest treat! I saw black cockatoos during my last visit to Cairns in October. Not close up though.

? I think there was a treat on offer for everyone involved. There are so many magnificent creatures in this place!

dunelight says:

This looks absolutely delightful. I am sure I would find it a treat. I love birds.

Thank you Kim. Australia seems to have a wide variety of cool birds. I have seen a few more types (Ibis and Superb Fairy-Wrens) since the cockatoos and look forward to seeing more.

Yikes! I’m afraid I might be squealing at the one landing on my head! 🙂

?The cockatoos seem to only land on the heads of people that are feeding them…. which is why I haven’t fed any yet. I saw another woman trying to feed them in the park and they swooped down on her like something out of a Hitchcock movie (and she did squeal). The fellow pictured here seemed to have a better handle on feeding them as they were much more gentle with him.

They can bite, and they’re loud. But they’re an icon of the Australian bush. Hope you’ve gotten out into the rural areas as well.

I have managed to get to Jindabyne and The Blue Mountains and seen kangaroos, emus and pink cockatoos. The kangaroos and emus made my Instagram but not the blog. Pink cockatoos made neither because the snaps were total shite. And now that we will sail the east coast and onto Darwin, I expect to see some more cool wildlife. I really wish I’d seen a Tasmanian Devil (outside of a zoo). That was one of my nick names at work which should give you an idea that I am a little hyper at times 🙂
