Love following your photos on Instagram Lisa – so many interesting subjects! Hope you have a good journey to Heron Island! We are being battered by wild storms and rain here over in the south west! Hope you have much more tranquil waters where you are and bon voyage 🙂

We’ve heard about your crazy weather! I hope it passes soon. Lucky for us, the weather in Queensland is perfect for sailing. The weather window looks long enough to allow a one more day on Fraser Island, this time in Platypus Bay before we head onward to Heron Island. We keep meeting local boaters who have great insights to these waters and their recommendations are causing us to travel more slowly than planned.

Sounds idyllic Lisa! Yes we have had a real wintry blast here – wild and wet so rugged up indoors with the fire blazing away! We love our wood burner in the cooler months! Enjoy your sailing adventures in sunny Queensland 🙂

I could look at the photo of dog art and the real thing all day. As I’ve said before you are so good I would swear it is staged. Glad to have the sailing report. Stay well and travel safely.

I get lucky with those street art shots. The photography gods throw me a bone (no pun intended) every once in awhile to keep me hooked on this art form. I took that when I was headed over to Bondi Pavilion to hang out with Tobi Wilkonson and the Monks. I was walking down Campbell Parade, spied the artwork, and got the camera out just as this woman walked by with her dog. I love when that happens. It was a treat. Sailing is going well. Just shy of the Great Barrier Reef now. Can’t wait to get in and do some snorkeling.

Glad to hear that the sailing is going well. The local boaters may well be a blessing in disguise. Local knowledge can be a gem.

Would love to see more pix of Fraser Island but no pressure ??

? There will be a few of Fraser Island in the next post. Admittedly, inspiration is coming slowly as I switch back from city life to sea life, but I have a few already and hope to have more. Thank you so much for sailing along with me.

Hi Lisa, so nice to hear from you! And I’m happy you made it to Fraser. Hope you’re having a wonderful time.
I thought a lot about you this week, as I had a crazy week at work. I wish u had been there sailing with you.
Thinking of your journey made me search for balance, stop and stay the course. Thanks!
Of course, it goes without saying how much I love your face photos, and your passion for these themes.
Safe jouney and till soon!
Hugs and love from your friend,
Lucile ??

I so wish you were sailing with me Lucile. I feel your pain. Balance is something that has eluded me in the past. I needed to be absorbed in whatever I was doing (all work or all play). I am hopeful that when I find work in Singapore, I can achieve a better balance, but if not, I know that there is play waiting for me at the end of the contract. What would be really awesome would be if we could get paid to play ?
Thank you so much for your compliments on the photos. Admittedly, inspiration is coming slowly for me on the nature shots as I transition from the streets to the sea, but they are coming slowly. I think of your sunrise/sunset images and am hopeful to capture some as beautiful.

I so relate to your description. I’m trying to change my working style and it’s working but not always. I can easily get absorbed and cancel my private commitments.
Being paid for play time would be a dream! ?
I’m sending all good vibrations your way so you get an assignment in Singapore!
How interesting to hear that you’re getting more interested about nature shots. I thought you were already as you have shared stunning pics. Thanks for the compliments. I use often the same scenario to shot the sunrise and sunset. During your travels you have many more opportunities to register nature all over the world. And I love what you do.
Keep shooting and inspiring us!
Safe travels.
??

I totally hear you about getting absorbed and canceling your private commitments in lieu of work. That is so my style when working and one that I too am determined to change next time around. Thank you for your lovely compliments on my previous nature shots. Was out taking more over the past week and still have a shed load to learn. Still no sunsets or sunrises that compare to yours…but I am working on it. Sorry for my delayed response. Have been without internet for a week.

Such a creative interpretation of the challenge. Love your street photography all round. You always have the knack to capture such uncanny moments, those moments that speak volumes in a moment in time. That one of the kid is a great example. He must be bored so he’s looking out the window…and maybe at the same time he is fascinated with the world around him.

Today I went out to try my hand at street photography. Needless to say I didn’t take many photos, but at one point I did think that you would have taken heaps 😀

Happy sailing, Lisa. Good to hear all engine troubles have been sorted and you are heading away from Fraser Island soon. The adventure is well and truly underway. Take care and Mr Wobbles sends his monkey love to you and the crew of Amandla <3

You and Mr Wobbles know how to make me feel loved and feel good about my art. Thank you for that.
Keep at the street photography Mabel. It takes a bit of time and a shed load of crappy reject shots, but with your talent for photography, I know you will build a portfolio quickly. I wish that we had spent more time together in Melbourne. I could have taken you for a full day of street shooting and you could have taken me for an evening of long exposure training (unlike you, every shot I took of the Yarra River was HORRIBLE). Perhaps we will have time together again someday in the future.

I”m sure your new adventures will be a hot spot for more street photography shots, and you will build on your own portfolio 🙂 It would be amazing to catch up again at some point for photo classes with each other. I think the trick to taking photos of the Yarra River at night is to set your camera down somewhere on one of the ledges by the river 😉 Looking forward to more photos and I’m sure the Captain is always encouraging you on your craft <3

Looking forward to meeting again!

Love all the faces. Happy sailing.

Thank you Ann! We are sailing along as I write this and are happy indeed. Thank you for the book review on your latest post (An Honest House: A Memoir by Cynthia Reyes). I have just ordered the ebook version to read on our next passage.

Fantastic faces! Especially the little boy peering out of the window.

? Thank you Anabel. That one is my favorite of the bunch too. No where near my best photo technically, but that face was so priceless I decided to share it anyhow.

lexklein says:

Great faces – all telling us something a little different. (I’m not sure what the crab is saying …) All beautiful images of your street rambles while anchored – I look forward to your next stop!

The crab is saying ‘I may be small but I’m unstoppable’. Exactly ?. Sorry for my delay in responding, I (happily) lost connectivity for a week on the 22nd. We are in The Whitsundays now for engine repairs (as opposed to snorkeling :-(. Thank you for the compliments on the images ?

lexklein says:

I’ve been stranded outside of blog- and Insta-land myself lately – moving my daughter from one city to another. Maybe I’ll write up my U-Haul experience as a travel story – ha! Just read your current post and glad things worked out OK!

Really great photos. Your are constantly getting better. it is great to see your progress. Put on lots of sunblock!

Very good advice …especially here in Australia. Thank you for the lovely feedback on the photography. Sorry for my delay in responding. Have been without connectivity since 22 May ?

Love the little boy peering out of the window! Just FYI, I have a link to your blog on my latest post (about full-time travel). Best wishes for smooth sailing!

Thank you Janis for featuring me alongside other fellow travelers on your wonderful blog post ‘Could You Travel Full Time’. And the little boy peering out the window was my favorite too! Technically far from my best, but you have to love that face!

Aquileana says:

Excellent shots dear Lisa… The dog mural behind that woman passing by is stunning :.. Well timed ? Have a great sunday… Best wishes ? Aquileana

Thank you so much for your visit and kind compliment Aquileana! I apologize for my delay in responding. Have been without internet since 22 May while island hoping along the east coast of Australia.

Nice selections. Love the dogs of Bondi.

Enjoy the trip north. Hope you enjoyed Fraser Island. I did a trip there by guided tour bus. As you drive off the ferry, we passed about 10 4WDs stuck in the sand – novices thinking driving on sand is just a matter of starting the engine and accelerating. 🙂

Fraser Island was brilliant although we stayed relatively close to anchorage and didn’t get to enjoy a 4WD tour. I hear they are marvelous…if the driver knows what s/he is doing :-).

Liesbet says:

How did you manage to get a dog walker to walk in front of the dog painting? How long did you have to wait for this shot? Knowing you, you probably totally lucked out with this scene! 🙂 So, you managed to make it to Fraser Island after all? Or, am I mixing them all up? Awesome! 🙂

Liesbet @ Roaming About

Honest to goodness, that was a lucky shot. I was rushing down Campbell Parade at Bondi Beach to go photograph the monks with the kids at the Tobi Wilkinson gig. As I was rushing, I saw this piece by Mr G. I had seen another work of his along the boardwalk (BatPug..adorable) and had to take a picture. I got my camera out, was focusing, and then spied this woman and her dog getting ready to walk by. The rest is history :-). Sorry for my delay in responding, we lost connectivity on 22 May as we neared Platypus Bay on Fraser Island and only just got it back when we hit Airlie Beach in The Whitsundays. We so totally need a Wirie to improve our connectivity. I think it would have made a difference. And yes, we did manage to make it to Fraser Island, but spent a great deal of time on engine failures and repairs. Things seem sorted for the moment, but we plan to have someone take a detailed look at it before we head off to Indonesia.

Liesbet says:

I had a feeling you were in luck with that great shot. You do attract amazing opportunities like these. 🙂 Sorry to hear about the boat issues. I hope you can get the engine problem totally sorted and tested, especially before your long trips further afield. And, I hope you get to experience some of the wonderful beaches and snorkel sites in the Whitsundays as well. Xxx

Beautiful Lisa! Can’t wait to see where you are next.

Thank you Nicole! Sorry for my delay in responding. We were without internet for a week while island hopping our way from Fraser Island to The Whitsundays.

Lisa, your photos never fail to amaze me! Just love the little boy staring through the window; priceless! Enjoy your time on this leg of the journey. BTW, there are people who DO get paid to play; pro-athletes, etc. But I wonder if once they show them the $$, it stops feeling like play and becomes work? Ah, the question for the ages!

Thank you Terri! That little boy was my favorite as well. Technically crap but I loved his little face. And I totally hear you about ‘paid to play = just another job’. Sorry for my delay in responding to your comment. We’ve been without internet for a week and I am now just playing catchup.

Beautifully captured, Lisa. Each face is unique and has so much to say. I love them all, but the last one truly stands out. It must not have been easy to get that shot. The crab looks defiant. So much character for a little thing. 🙂

Thank you so much Cheryl. You are right that it was not easy to get the crab shot. They move around quickly and in bunches but this little fellow popped out from the crowd to have a look at me and stood still long enough for me to get a shot. His expression says ‘I may be small, but I am unstoppable’. Exactly!

Thank you Lisa for sharing. And as usual: “Bons vents”. 😉

Cheers Brian! Sorry for my delayed response. We were without internet for a week while island hopping our way up the east coast of Australia. Only 1500 nm left to Darwin!

No worry. So you will sail past New Guinea, I guess? And then off to Timor? Fair winds.

We will sadly bypass New Guinea. Instead, we will sail through the Torres Strait to Darwin and then onward to Indonesia.

More or less the route I figured looking at the map. When are you leaving for Darwin?

We are underway now, but slowly sailing there. Anticipate that we will arrive there July 8th. Have many places to visit along the way. Currently in The Whitsundays and loving it

we are underway to Darwin now but won’t get there until July 7ish. It’s a long sail with so much to see ?

Looked the islands up. Look very nice. I see you are still quite a way east. How do you say “cabotage” in english? Coast-hopping?

That works ?

Love the crab.

Thank you Karen! He was a tough little fellow for only being 1 inch across.

Love the pics and hope you are doing well!

Ahoy Sandra! Thank you so much for your lovely compliment. Sorry for my delay in responding. We were without internet for a week. We are doing well in spite of a few problems (engines, freezers, cameras, radars). Currently in The Whitsundays where we may spend time fixing things rather than snorkeling, but we are surrounded by beauty and we still have our sense of humor.

Michele says:

Hi Lisa, as always, I loved your photos, especially the old man with the accordion. I think he has many stories to tell! And the dog walking in front of the dog- priceless! Happy sailing!

Ahoy there Michele. Thank you so much! Sorry for my delay in responding to your lovely compliments and well wishes, we have been without internet for a week while making our way to The Whitsundays.

I love that dog grafitti.

Thanks Max! I love Mr G’s work. He did another piece at Bond Beach called ‘BatPug’ with a Pug In a Batman Mask. Its in my Instagram. Love it!

Amy says:

I, too, love the dog grafitti. The young boy looking out the window is a precious capture! 🙂

Thank you Amy! Sorry for my delay in responding. We’ve been without internet for the week while island hopping our way north.

Hi!

Done!

badfish says:

Very cool shots. Love the crab. How big is that thing?

Thank you Mr. Badfish. That fierce little crab is about an inch across. Still, I think he could have taken me if he had wanted ?. I thought of Duncan when I saw him and wondered whether a Hermit Crab can date a Solider Crab. Or perhaps they are more like the Jets and the Sharks (in their case The Hermits and The Soldiers) from West Side Story.

badfish says:

They don’t call them Soldier Crabs for nothing, he looks tough, all right. Duncan just changed his shell again this morning, now he’s a bright pearly white.
