I was kindly invited by Yvette, the wonderfully talented photoblogger at Priorhouse Blog to participate in a 5 Day B&W Photo Challenge.
There are only two rules for this challenge:
1. On 5 consecutive days, create a post using either a past or recent photo in B&W.
2. Each day invite another blog friend to join in the fun.
For my first entry, I share an image I recently captured when walking along the streets of Auckland.
Borrowing the eloquent words of my friend Michelle Hill, ‘I know that many of my fellow bloggers are regularly asked to participate in these challenges so rather than nominating an individual I’m making an offer to any of you who are interested to take up the challenge’.
I really hope you will join in the fun. And if you aren’t familiar with Yvette’s wonderful blog, you will definitely want to check it our here.
Well Lisa- on my 2nd viewing – I noticed the folks int he back – to the right – and the escalator – so this shot has many things going for it – and I would want to catch a shot of this lady as well – I am curious to know if you asked her for a shot or not…
PS thanks for the affirmations my friend! and I really like hiow you and Michelle put the invite out there…
Thanks for inviting me to participate in the 5 Day B&W challenge! My approach to street photography is to capture ‘the moment’ which often requires discretion and anonymity. But I so enjoy your approach to street photography with each photo or set of photos being accompanied by a story of your interactions. I have some examples of that, but most of mine are more ‘observational’ than ‘interactive’ encounters.
Affirmations all true!
well thanks…
and I like how you describe your approach – and Bill Jones Jr. was just sharing his approach too – and well, the thing I love about taking people photos is the essence we bring that can never be duplicated again. like the person will never have the same look they have that day – the surroundings will change – and even your lens might be a little to the left or right on a different day. and so while landscapes and artifacts have much value – some of the people shots become a stamp in time – that whispers of the culture, the subject and the photographer, ya know?
I feel exactly the same way!!!! And thanks for turning me onto Bill Jones Jr btw – I saw him in your twitter stream and was immediately drawn to his Just Us blog
oh cool – well he has so many blogs I kinda lose track – but he is one of my favs – and speaking of twitter – I actually have a photo I am sending you via a tweet – but need to do it later. in the meantime, stay safe – and dry — my friend <3
Looking forward to seeing your Tweet Yvette! Have a good evening.
Hello Lisa, this is a lovely portrait. The kind of photo I like to discreetly make. Great start for the BW challenge.
I’d love to join in though I have done it already weeks ago and even nominated Michelle. But I love BW… so..
You are so lovely to say so Lucile. Your feedback is so greatly appreciated and makes me feel great! I have a great deal to learn from your BW captures.
I love black and white photos Lisa and this is such a lovely one! One day when I have more time I’ll do some more photo challenges myself just a bit flat chat at present – great idea to ask anyone who’s interested to participate as not everyone likes to be nominated. Have a lovely weekend 🙂
Thank you Rosemary! I would love to see you participate in the challenge when your schedule frees up as I am certain you would share stunning photos!
Thanks Lisa 🙂
So much vitality in it as a black and white, isn’t there? 🙂
Yes!
