Awesome catch there Lisa! Fab!

Thank you for saying so Desleyjane! Greatly appreciated.

Beautiful work!

Wow Jim! Thank you so much! I LOVE your work and am thrilled by your compliment.

Jenny says:

OMG! I remember seeing a ray that big in Marsden Cove (Whangarei). Such wonderful creatures & they feel so silky smooth. Great photo!

Thanks Jenny! I swam with stingrays in Bora Bora but none were as large as the ones I’ve seen here. Now, if I could just see one of your elusive blue penguins, my trip to New Zealand would be complete 🙂

exciting for him

The little boy and the stingray really seemed to bond. Perhaps I was viewing the moment in the early life of a future ‘Jacques Cousteau’

that’s amazing!

Thank you Maria – it was an impressive moment to see!

badfish says:

Great shot. Just what is that kid doing? Is that in a pool, or pierside? Kid’s got guts. You got luck!!!

You are very kind as always! The kid is feeding the stingray. I took that on Pier Z in Gulf Harbor where we are currently docked. The kid seemed completely at ease with the stingray (which I have since learned is nicknamed Bruno)! And I am definitely a lucky girl 🙂

badfish says:

Gulf Harbor…NZ? Ms. Luck

🙂 Yes sir Mr Bad(ass)fish.

badfish says:

Right…anything but “cute” as Chrysler says

badfish says:

I want to know more about that kid’s relationship with Bruno!!

One of mutual respect and love :-).

badfish says:

Well, it definitely looks like that! This is the kind of thing that should be on the news, instead of …well, what is, usually.

Totally agree 🙂

yprior1 says:

great capture = and I wonder what that feels like – I have felt sharks before – and other sea creatures – but never a ray – and the color of the water with the nice splash adds to the energy – brave kid for sure (and hope you get to see the blue penguin!!)
<3

Thank you for your lovely compliment Yvette! That kid was definitely brave but also seemed to have simpatico with the stingray.

yprior1 says:

yes indeed – maybe he will go into marina biology – I just watched a documentary (well half of it) about some concerned divers who are removing old fishing nets format he reefs – and I had no idea the nets were such a problem – I knew trash and some plastics – but I guess this lost nets wreak havoc.

Definitely a problem! Glad to know that this documentary is raising awareness of the good work being done by the divers. Do you remember the name of the documentary? Would love to see it.

yprior1 says:

I will go and peek at the deleted files to see if I can see it. 🙂

kirsten says:

WOW! Great shot of the stingray and boy – you captured the moment wonderfully!

Well you are lovely to say so Kirsten! Greatly appreciate your compliment!

Janice says:

Lovely shot of something ephemeral! think of you often, my friend, and hope you are well. Wish we could sit down and chat over a glass of wine!

Thank you Janice! Would LOVE to be sharing a glass of wine and a chat with you right now!

Goodness, what an amazing shot, Lisa 🙂

Well thank you Jo! It is so much fun to be in the right place at the right time.

themofman says:

That’s a HUGE ray! It’s like one of the monsters caught by Jeremy Wade.

I LOVE that ‘Bruno’ (I understand from the Gulf Harbor locals that is the stingray’s nickname) made you think of the very awesome Jeremy Wade and his Monsters. I will pass along your compliment to ‘Bruno’ next time I see him swimming around the docks! I think he will be very pleased.

Oh my gosh! what a great picture Lisa and I can just see a certain little dog bobbing around trying to figure out what that *thing* is and can he play with it 😮

Thank you Meg. It is what a life at sea has on offer. Tell Captain Hubble to grab his Pirate Cap and come join us.

PS – I so hope that Little Dogs Laughed Book and Lunch Club does an Easter Story!

My boy enjoyed this. He asked why you didn’t get stung. =)

Am glad he liked it Diana! Stingrays typically only ‘sting’ when they feel threatened. This little boy seems to have a great friendship with ‘Bruno’, one of the two stingrays that live in the marina. It was lovely to watch the two of them together.

Told him. =) Thanks.

Wow, that is one of the coolest things I have seen.

Well thank you Kalyen! Pleased to hear you think so!

You are so welcome.

Amazing photo Lisa what a wonderful moment to capture!

You are lovely to say so Rosemary! I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time!

Amazingly timely photo!

It is such a treat to be at the right place at the right time 🙂
