Inspiration

I’d been struggling to come up with a submission for The Daily Post’s Weekly Photo Challenge: Inspiration for a couple of reasons:

  1. I am currently resident in less than inspiring surroundings (a very comfortable, safe, yet soulless marina)  while The Captain returns stateside for 10 days.   I could have easily traveled to nearby villages or cities for inspiration, but I really wanted to use my first days of ‘me time’ to thoroughly clean the boat end-to-end without the Captain simultaneously ripping it apart to fix things.
  2. This challenge seemed strikingly close to the 26 June 2015  ‘Muse’ challenge, so I felt like I’d be repeating myself if I focused my post on the ‘subject’ that most inspires my photography.

Thus, I was planning to skip this week’s challenge…until I read a recent post from Teddy J., a fellow blogger and host of the very informative Sail Loot Blog and Podcast.

Sail Loot features interviews with / practical strategies from sailors who are enjoying the cruising lifestyle (long term readers of my blog may recall that Teddy interviewed me for Episode 008 of the Podcast).  Teddy also shares sailing stories, tips and best practices for web-commuting, on-line businesses and internet marketing.

I don’t typically reblog other’s posts, and ordinarily wouldn’t consider doing so for a photo challenge. But I was inspired by Teddy’s honest, heartfelt self-disclosure and his courage to ‘be himself first’ in Sail Loot Episode 025: Peaks and Troughs of Sailing, Life and Money

So  I thought I would turn this week’s challenge on its head and reblog Teddy’s post as my submission.  You can read it and/or listen to it here.

Hope to see you living your sailing dream soon Teddy!

My brother has compared certain marinas to trailers parks–floating trailer parks is what he calls them.

That is often true, but this one is for Super Yachts and we are like their hillbilly neighbors ?

Love the photograph at the beginning of this post Lisa. Photography is like blogging. We all look for inspiration but it is surprising just where and when it turns up. The problem for you is that you always have to have your camera poised. That moment may be fleeting and you have to capture it

Exactly! It is this ‘quest’ to capture the right moment and the difficulty in doing so that has gotten me ‘hooked’ me on photography. Thank you for your lovely compliment Mark. Once again you’ve made me smile. Now, if I only had your talent for creating imagery with words …….. 🙂

Lisa, I thought the same thing with the subject for the WPC. I love what inspired you in the post you referred to. In your case, perhaps a mundane ocean view can be just as inspiring since it represents the vastness of the ocean compared to our busy and intricate lives. Nicely done!

You are absolutely wonderful Terri. You have made my morning. Thank you!

Hi Lisa, I enjoyed hearing your voice on the podcast. I enjoyed your perspective on just doing it- I am one of those over researchers, studying things forever before making a decision. There comes a time when you just have to let go and take a step forward. I am learning to be more spontaneous. Happy sailing!

I am honored that you took the time to listen to the Podcast Michele! Thank you so much. I too am an over analyzer/researcher/planner but eventually, with tough decisions that I know ‘have to be made, I eventually get to a point where I just have to take a leap pf faith. Sometimes I can take a few years to reach that ‘jump’ point, but the timing always seems ‘just right’ in the end. Lovely to hear from you. Thank you again!

I’m not going to listen to the podcast, but it’s a beautiful photo and I like the “floating trailer parks” comment (and your reply to it).

?I can’t believe you would pass up an opportunity to listen to my sultry voice for an hour Cardinal!

Am truly delighted that you found the image beautiful the banter amusing
