One Ocean At A Time

We arrived in New Caledonia on 1 October 2015 after a six night sail from Fiji and were looking forward to exploring the place for a couple of weeks. But when the perfect weather window for our sail to Australia presented itself, we felt that we had to take it.

So after six nights in the Port Moselle, we are again casting off the dock lines and heading to Sydney via New Castle.

Noumea - October 2015 - Cheese

A Small Sample Of The Cheese For Sail At The Local Grocery

It wasn’t a total loss.

We did manage to put the boat in order and provision a variety French favorites (baguette, cheese, eclair, etc).

Noumea - October 2015 - Street Art (2)

I was able to drink up some beautiful street art after a drought of murals Fiji and experience a bit of the city of Nouméa. I look forward to seeing so much more when we return here in May 2016.

Once we leave the shores of New Caledonia, we will be off-grid for a week but will be sending periodic position updates via satellite phone along the way.  You can follow our updates on FarkwarTwitter  or in the sidebar on my blog.

Abiento!

Shame we only got a little taste of the street art but that gives us May 2016 to look forward to. Have a safe trip! Be careful of your lenses.

The trip to Australia was good and we have now arrived safely. Hoping to find a replacement for that polarizing lens here. There is some amazing street art close to the marina in Newcastle, Australia that I will be sharing soon! I think I am going to like it here.

Ahoy from Newcastle, Australia Indah! Thanks so much for your lovely compliment on the street art image. Was lucky to be in the right place at the right time as there is little foot traffic in that area.

I love how the man walking appears to be being observed under the magnifying glass by the man in the mural. Nice pics, as usual. Safe travels.

⚓️ Ahoy from Newcastle Australia Janis! Thank you for your compliments and well wishes! I got lucky with the mural shot as there is not a lot of foot traffic in that area.

    Yeah I really love cheese… 😀

Excellent ‘walk’, really enjoyed it… 🙂

Have a safe trip, guys. How long do you think it will take you?

Hi Margo! We left New Caledonia pretty much right after I posted the blog entry and ‘flew’ to Australia, arriving two days ahead of schedule. It was a bit tiring as we were reaching most of the way and thus living at a 15 degree angle, but it was worth it to get here so quickly. The Captain caught up with Steve this morning. Was great to hear Steve’s voice on Skype!

Awesome stuff, Lisa! Like Janis said, the photo of the man walking under the magnifying glass in the mural is truly a treat to see! Love what you posted and safe journeys!

Too bad you couldn’t stay longer; Nouméa looks great! I was not terribly familiar with New Caledonia, but I just read that Nouméa has many luxury boutiques with Parisian fashions, so I hope you stocked up for your stint in Australia! But seriously, what a treat to come upon all those cheeses – yum!

    • Lisa Dorenfest October 16, 2015 — Post Author

What you have read is true. So many cute boutiques in Nouméa. Wish I could have picked up a few new outfits but we were in and out of the place so fast I couldn’t procure anything but a few photographs and food :-). Looking forward to returning…but also really looking forward to sailing into Sydney Harbor. That is a bucket list item indeed.

Excellent timing on that third shot.

Dang those dang perfect weather windows!…they are always messing things up in the world! I LOVE the street art with the guy in red walking by just under the microscope…it’s just soooo Lisa Dorenfest, eh? Did you have to pay him to walk by, or did you just wait until someone did. Or are you like the luckiest photographer around? I mean, I see Indah and Lucile above taking outrageous shots. And now you coming up with this off the wall stuff. I’m gonna trade in my camera.

I love you man! Ahoy from Newcastle Australia Mr Badfish ??. That street art shot was definitely more about luck than talent. The area where that mural is has little foot traffic. And when the fellow started walking by, I thought, oooh, need to get a shot to give a sense of perspective (size of mural v size of man). It wasn’t until I got home and was in post processing mode did that I realized the shot was framed so perfectly. Much of my photography happens like that. It is like a gift from the photography gods. They throw bones at me occasionally to keep me addicted to this art form. And you are SILLY to say you are going to turn in your camera! Not only do you have a way with words but your snaps are fantastic.

Cheese, Eclairs, and Street Art – you can’t go wrong with those. I hope you have safe sailings, Lisa. Look forward to reading more once you reach Australia.

Ahoy from Newcastle, Australia Kirsten! The passage was good and we are now safely tucked in at Newcastle. Getting very excited to head into Sydney Harbor in a week or so. Life is grand.

  14. Lignum Draco October 17, 2015

What a life, going where the wind blows and the sun shines. Don’t eat that cheese all at once. 🙂

  15. rosemaylily2014 October 19, 2015

Glad to hear you’ve made it safely to Aussie shores Lisa – hopefully you’ll make it out west at some point! Australia is such a huge place!!

  17. restlessjo October 21, 2015

Was going to say every time I eat cheese I’ll think of you, but it seems you’re already there! 🙂 I’ll just enjoy the conversation with Badfish instead 🙂

    • Lisa Dorenfest October 22, 2015 — Post Author

Ahoy There Jo! Always a pleasure to hear from you! We had a great passage here, enjoying cheese all the way, and are SLOWLY making our way down to Sydney. Should arrive there by the end of the month. I have a feeling there are many ‘Monday Walks’ here in my future.
