Wow, very impressive! And so many, too. Good job of documenting them.
Lisa Dorenfest October 25, 2015 — Post Author
?Am so glad you think so John! I have updated the ‘Captions’ with the name of the artist where I know them so it is a bit easier to see when navigating the gallery. I also added about ten more pieces at the end that I failed to load the first time. Don’t know what happened but they are there now.
Frankie Beane October 25, 2015
The Guido Van Helten is spectacular! Is that Askew One right before the Adnate piece? Those three images in a row are great! All the pieces are good. Those three just caught my eye. Love the octopus playing the sax too.
It is so crazy how certain parts of the world have such great street art. Athens, Melbourne, Newcastle, Bristol, Auckland (Hamilton), Berlin…
Lisa Dorenfest October 25, 2015 — Post Author
?Thank you Frankie. Delighted you liked the gallery.
Yes that is Askew_One (he is tops in my book). I have updated the gallery with ‘Captions’ wherever I know the artist so that it is easier to navigate. I have also added about 10 more images at the end that somehow failed to upload on my first attempt (didn’t notice until this morning). I feel lucky to be in a country with so much amazing street art. I think that it flourishes in the the places that you mention because it aligns with the vibe of the cities.

Thanks for letting me know Lisa. I will go back and have another look. I really like Askew One as well.

He is a superstar. I am so in love with his work that I gave one of his Annabel pieces as a gift to a very dear friend of mine who needed some encouragement and some beauty in her life.
Frankie Beane October 26, 2015
They are beautiful! You are a good friend.

Great to see so much talent and creativeness. Thanks for sharing, Lisa.
Lisa Dorenfest October 26, 2015 — Post Author
Thank you Margo! Speaking of talent, would love to see a mural of Molly & Zoey on a wall somewhere! How cool would that be ?
Terri Webster Schrandt October 25, 2015
You have such a knack, Lisa, for finding and photographing such cool street art, murals, etc. Do you know about these ahead of time or do you stumble upon them on your walking journeys? Very talented group of artists collected here! Have a great week!
Lisa Dorenfest October 26, 2015 — Post Author
? Well thank you Terri!
For the most part, I stumble upon them during my walking (or cycling) journeys. I find that the element of surprise makes my experience of the works so much more enjoyable. Once I’ve photographed many, I Google ‘Street Art’ for the location I am visiting in to try to identify artists who have not signed the works I have seen. At that point, I become aware of other murals in the area that I don’t want to miss and so I make a trip out to see them.
I did know that there were murals in Newcastle before arriving here, and even tours of the murals, but I prefer to go it alone and see them as the come. Howard, the marina manager gave me a sense of where I should start looking in Newcastle. The first one I saw here was the Adnate Mural (1st one in the gallery) while walking from the marina to the grocery. Made the task of provisioning so much more fun. The disappointing thing is that there is much more street art that I found a few blocks from the marina but failed to photograph because it was getting too dark when I found them and we left the next morning. But I get them on my return visit.
I think that I am going to have to google ‘Street Art Festivals’ while I am in Australia because I would love to see another one ‘live’ like I did with All Fresco in New Zealand in April
Wow, that was probably too much information and maybe should have been a blog post instead of a response to your comment, but I obviously love this stuff and once you get me going. Well. Anyhow. Sorry. Thank you for letting me talk your ear off!
Terri Webster Schrandt October 26, 2015
No problem, it sounds like a wonderful hobby within a hobby 🙂 Keep those photos coming!

You have an amazing eye for street art. it has us looking at it more often. Amazing how you can take the time for it while surrounded by all the natural beauty. Two different worlds colliding beautifully.
Lisa Dorenfest October 26, 2015 — Post Author
What a lovely thing to say! Thank you! How lucky am I to be surrounded by both talented art works and natural beauty.
Truth be told that I am a woman of extremes. I like both the buzz of the big city and the serenity that can only be found in the great outdoors. And I am treated to a bit of both on this sailing adventure.
I hope someday you are lucky enough to happen upon a street art festival in action. The talented artists are more than willing to talk to you about their creations and inspirations. The thing I love most about this art form is its accessibility.
And for some reason, the statement above just made me think of the Science Cafe’s that I used to frequent in New York. Same sort of thing except the cafe’s were about access to the great minds in the area rather than artists. But it is all about accessibility.
But I am rambling.
Faraday's Candle October 26, 2015
You are not rambling…merely sharing your experiences. We too are lucky for enjoying both worlds with a big lump of science in there…lol. Always a pleasure to have you stop by.
Lisa Dorenfest October 26, 2015 — Post Author
Thanks for being part of my ‘science fix’. Love your stuff

Awesome Street Art!

?So many great works in Newcastle. Unfortunately, I didn’t capture them all. I discovered some additional murals very late on our last day in Newcastle but the light was too poor to photograph and we left early the next morning. Hopefully I will make my way back to Newcastle to photograph them before we leave Australia
Ladybuggz October 26, 2015
I’m so jealous of you!:)
Frankie Beane October 26, 2015
I think the piece after Jumbo and Bafcat is Beastman: http://www.beastman.com.au/walls.html. Some great stuff!!!
Lisa Dorenfest October 26, 2015 — Post Author
Thank you so much for pointing that out! Right you are! Thank you. I did see the Beastman work in Christchurch but failed to connect the style with this one.
Updated!

?Newcastle is home to some great local graffiti artists and the Hit The Bricks festival in 2014 attracted some renowned artists from around the world.
lensandpensbysally October 27, 2015
What a fabulous collection, which shows the diversity of subjects and approaches to graffiti and murals.
Lisa Dorenfest October 27, 2015 — Post Author
? Newcastle was a treasure trove of street art. I didn’t manage to snap it all as I ran out of time …but I’ll be back on our way out of Australia ??
Artistami.Eva October 27, 2015
These are so awesome. By now I know you know how much I love art, especially street art. It just amazes me. These just took my breath away. Thanks for sharing Lisa.
Lisa Dorenfest October 27, 2015 — Post Author
? so many great artists locally and from around the world have created here Eva. Was a delight to see. Thank you for your visit ?

Love it! It reminds me of my Mexico City street art gallery. I’m doing a graffiti tour in Bogota in December, so get ready for a counterpost! We will have a street art duel – haha! But seriously, these are great photos of some captivating art – thanks for sharing!
Lisa Dorenfest October 28, 2015 — Post Author
I loved your Mexico City Street Art Gallery and have added a link to it here. I am totally game for a friendly street art duel. I’ve been capturing street art on my sailing adventure since visiting Hawaii and love the art form. Looking forward to seeing what you capture on the Bogota tour….and I’ll continue to share what I find in Australia.
lexklein October 28, 2015
I might as well surrender right now! Haha … but seriously, you are the queen of street art photography; I am (to date) a one-hit wonder!
Lisa Dorenfest October 28, 2015 — Post Author
Your first time out was brilliant! I expect great things from you in December. And would love to see any street art you might happen upon in my old hometown!
lexklein October 28, 2015
Every morning when I drive to work, I see incredible art on the buildings of Little Village and Pilsen, the two Latino communities west of the city. I really MUST make an effort to slow down some day and snap some photos!

Do it!!!!
badfish October 29, 2015
Leave it to the Ozzies to create stuff like this…in this quantity and quality!! What is that thing that seems to be melting!?
Lisa Dorenfest October 29, 2015 — Post Author
‘Twas a nice combination of Local talent with some big names from around the globe. The ‘melting things’ were done by BMD, a famous NZ collective who just split (melted ?!?) after 10 years of working together…making the metaphor on that wall ironic. They are now Damin Radford Scott and Andrew J Steele. If you click on their names in this comment you can see their solo accounts on Instagram

? After a drought of street art in Fiji, it was treat to see it again here and in Noumea. So many great local and international artists. Can’t wait to see what murals await in Sydney.
