New Zealand - April 2015 - Ponsonby Road_Copy

Given that I am sailing around the world, this week’s challenge should have given me a a great opportunity to showcase my 2015, ever changing ‘backyard’ as I have done in 2014 and 2013.

Unfortunately,  health issues (the realities of paradise) diagnosed after our South Island Road Trip have seen SY Amandla tied to a dock in Gulf Harbor while her crew have spent a great deal of time with doctors in Auckland.

To stay sane, I have been shooting a lot of street portraits and street art.

So for this week’s challenge, I share an image of a man keeping himself afloat on the streets of Auckland.

Our current ‘plan’ is to return to sea in May and I hope to share many new ‘backyards’ with you in the future.

What a great portrait!

Am thrilled to hear you think so Desleyjane! Really pleased.

Stay well and sail safely. ⛵️

Thank you for your kind words Nelkumi-san! You have brightened my day.

This is an unbelievably poignant and powerful portrait, Lisa. His eyes say so much.

So very glad that you think so Britta! His eyes spoke to me as well!

Absolutely! It’s a wonderful photo. I hope all is well health wise, too…or will be well soon, at least.

:-). You are very kind. The crew of Amandla are on the mend and feeling better every day! We moved back on Amandla yesterday after a two week’s stay in Auckland and are thrilled to be home…..although I miss maid service and The Captain misses the beautiful, attentive, and incredibly skilled nurses.

sorry to hear about the health issues, but this is a powerful shot. Hope you’re back on the water soon

I greatly appreciate your support Lisa and really happy you liked the shot!

Wonderful image Lisa. Expressive, powerful, colourful and hopeful. Be well.

Thank you for such wonderful feedback and support Karen. You so rock!

really great shot – and excellent take on the wpc – and this man’s eyes are piercing – and the shot says so much Lisa.

also, sending get well healing wishes your way – 🙂 <3

I am really pleased that you think so Yvette! Thank you for your compliments and your healing well wishes :-).

You know I thought of you when I took this picture. As you know, I am usually a ‘discreet shooter’ but in this case, following your style, I introduced myself to this wonderful man before I started taking pictures. I took a few before this shot where he was smiling widely, but I liked this shot the best because I felt it really captured his power. He thought so too.

thanks for sharing this – made my day! 🙂 – and I also know what you mean about choosing the right photo (smile vs. non smile and all that) – and well it adds more to know that.

Sorry to hear about the health issues Lisa and sending good wishes your way! Powerful portrait!

Greatly appreciate your compliment and support Rosemary!

That photo is hauntingly beautiful! You so so gifted with a camera.
Hope you feel better soon and your health issues are resolved.

What lovely compliments! And no one has called me ‘gifted with a camera’ before! You absolutely made my day. Thank you also for your well wishes. The crew of Amandla are on the mend and every day is better. We’ve returned to our boat and have two friends visiting us for a few days which is very nice.

I hope the health issues aren’t too serious, Lisa! Did you all pick up some kind of bug? I went back to the last South Island post but couldn’t find any clues (but wasn’t it beautiful!) Hope you’re sailing again soon! 🙂

Thank you so much for your well wishes Jo. The South Island was incredibly beautiful and I would love to go back there for more. Unfortunately, The Captain’s health issues were a bit serious requiring surgery and a month of recovery. Lucky he had a good surgeon. My procedures were much more routine with minimal recovery, but ill timed given what is going on with The Captain. I may write more in the future about what has been going on these past few months, but for now, I’m just going to hide behind my camera :-).

Thanks for the explanation. Get well hugs! 🙂

Great capture of the emotion in his face! Keep up the good work.

Your wonderful feedback means a great deal to me Duncan! Thank you.

I cannot stop looking at this excitedly well done done portrait. His face speaks so much! You captured it with mastery, Lisa.
On a more important note, I wish you all a speedy recovery and hope that it is nothing too serious. Sending my best vibrations your way! Get well soon!

How lucky am I to wake up to such a wonderful compliment and positive healing vibes waiting for me on my blog Lucile. The crew of Amandla are on the mend and hopefully will be sailing from New Zealand to Fiji in mid-May. Fingers crossed. Thank you for your kindness!

You are most welcome, Lisa! Your comments invariably brighten my day.

🙂

This is terrific Lisa though we are sorry to hear that illness is interfering- clearly you are making the most of your extended stay- Hubble says get well soon and he is practicing his “ahoy matey” pose 😉

Thank you Meg and Captain Hubble for your kindness and well wishes. I keep on smiling thinking of Hubble in his Pirate’s cap 🙂

Quite the face. I’m drawn to the space between his eyes where his brow knits above the bridge of his nose.

Quite intense.

I loved his face too Allan! He was a really gentle man but we both liked this image best because it showed his power.
