Initially, I was quite disappointed when, due to inclement weather, the crew of Amandla had to delay departure to The Lau Group until this coming Monday.

But my spirits were brightened yesterday when this ‘Flash Parade’ marched down the  streets of Savusavu to kick-off ‘Anti Crime Week’.  It was an unexpected treat.

And my mood has remained positive as the town is full of other cruisers also delayed by weather.  We are enjoying their company playing games (Bocce when there is a break in the weather and Mexican Train when there is not) and sharing meals.  Savusavu is a good place to wait out a storm.

I think that parades are wonderful opportunities for candid street portraits. The only issue may be that the people are moving, but you knew how to take sharp photos despite. I love the post. Thank you very much, Lisa for joining in 🙂 I hope that weather is better for you now.

Thank you Paula for hosting this fabulous challenge. Glad to have had the opportunity to participate in the fun. And thank you also for your kind feedback. I’ve gotten a bit bolder with the camera (hopping in between the lead car and the marchers to get some direct shots) and keeping fit while running down the street to stay ahead of/keep pace with my subjects :-). Sun is out today but winds still too strong/seas too lively to venture out…have to wait a day or so more.

Love the expressions on the kids’ faces, from smiles to frowns, curious to bored!

#metoo John! Children are my favorite subject to photograph because they are so expressive…albeit sometimes difficult to capture because they are in constant motion! Thank you so much for your comment.

I like the uniform of the musicans! These skirts are marvelous.
Hope the storm dies down. What is your next destination?

I loved their outfits too 🙂 Loved the outfits of the parade you photographed as well.

Weather has improved but winds still too high to head out. Our first destination is Vanua Balavu via Viani Bay and Taveuni Island.

Thank you! I will check on a map where you are!

We meet ‘on the street’, Lisa 🙂 🙂 You are great at this! I love all the captured expressions. (and those zig-zag bottomy trousers 🙂 ) Yvette herself would be proud of this and she’s a whizz! And an educational post, too- like the sound of Mexican trains. Happy sailing, soon I hope!

Thank you Jo :-). Hoping to see more of you ‘on the street’ in the future and looking forward to taking a ‘Monday Walk’ with you again soon.

Excellent captured, Lisa… 🙂

You are very kind Drake. Thank you so much!

Dear Lisa,
I love these pictures. Women and men with same skirts, wonderful! And the sandals….

It’s a difficult weather period at the moment. We had a lot of wind and waves on our passage as well. But now we are here in Indonesia. We chosed the most eastern port of entry: Tual on the Kei Islands. Its another wold. it’s so different to the pacific, as we are now in Asia. The muezzin is singing 5 times a day. yesterday was the first Ramadan day and all restaurants are closed at day.

we wish you both a fantastic time in the Lau group.

cheers
Thomas and Annette

Great to hear from you Thomas! Glad you liked the pics. Delighted to know that you safely made it to Indonesia, albeit in challenging conditions. I can imagine it must be very different from what you’ve experienced thus far. Wish we were sailing along with you and look forward to seeing Indonesia through your eyes.

I really enjoy your candid portrait shots. I try to get some of those, but everyone always poses! Lol

Thank you so much Kirsten. Street portraits are my favorite images to capture so I am focused on improving my skills in that area. Your compliment absolutely made my week!

kirsten says:

You are fantastic at them :-). I need to take some time to try my hand at street photography. It would definitely be interesting!!

Okay, now you’ve made my month :-). Street photography is addictive once you get started. I can’t wait to see your street shots!

kirsten says:

I can see where it would be addictive. It will probably be a couple of weeks before I have some time to go somewhere where I would get interesting pics. I live in a fairly small suburb area 🙂

Indeed. Tough to be ‘stealth’ in small suburban area 🙂

kirsten says:

Especially since I’ve lived here my whole life and everyone knows me! Lol

How nice that you could stay a little longer and make the shots. I always find these parades in small cities very interesting. It is a good way to see a larger spectrum of a city together. Good to observe and photograph and you did it fantastically.
Thanks and safe travels!

It was wonderful to wake up this morning and have a bit of Lucile love on my blog 🙂 Your compliments and friendship are greatly appreciated.
