Apparently, it is quite a time piece to behold …when it is operational. Unfortunately, the day I chose to take the hour long train ride to see the ‘Hornsby Water Clock’ in action was the day that it was shut down to set up for a concert. Still, it looks like it is worth a second train trip to see it in all its glory. So ‘Hornsby, here I come’ (again).

You know, I though about it further and realized how fortuitous it was that the clock wasn’t ‘flowing’ yesterday. I made the best of it and got this shot which I like. So it was a good day. Thanks for your compliment Sue ?
I am delighted that you like the image Ann. That bird shadow was an extra bonus that I was treated to in post processing. It was like the man’s spirit following him or time catching up with him.
Time stood still indeed. My favorite thing about photography is capturing a moment, where time stops. And given the water clock was not operating that day, time actually did stand still in Hornby.
Brilliant shot, Lisa. As you wrote to your comment to Sue, it was worth the train travel. The way you shot it and made it into black and white, the clock looks incredibly striking. I also like how you captured the man and his shadow. Shadows are dependent on time; shadows move with time and in the olden days, are time itself. Really like how you left the shadow of the bird in – we can’t see the bird but we know it’s there and a part of this continuum in time.

I like the shadows from the middle down. That said, the light section top left is taking my eye out of the frame. Also on the right, but less so. Darkening that down would take care of that. in fact, darkening down a few sections right at the top will help the composition which is a little busy.
The gentleman at the front is perfect. His head is against the dark area and his black bag is against the white and I love his position. I’d be tempted to crop the top just under the car so the focus is entirely on the clock and the chap. I wonder what the image would look like shot earlier or later in the day.
